Multi-generation homes in the old vocational school in Enschede
The intention for this graduation project was for different generations to live together in an old vocational school. You could choose the target groups yourself. I have chosen to bring seniors and students together. Older people are increasingly becoming lonely because they live alone at home for longer. Their social network is shrinking while they are often in need of help, help that is offered less and less by the government. In addition, there is a growing group of students who want to be socially involved, even outside their trusted network. In my center these worlds meet. Each residential unit of the senior and that of the student is linked together as a kind of buddy project. My goal is to create a social infrastructure. The corridors have different meeting places: dynamic or withdrawn. Transparent walls ensure ‘seeing and being seen’. Corridor care involves asking for help and offering help on both sides.
